Humanity thrives on innovation. Every day, new projects spring up to meet society’s ever-growing needs. LaunchPad, a new series from Moveee, spotlights these projects across industries, from fashion and tech to food and design, bringing you fresh stories about the projects shaping today’s world often through the people creating them.
In this edition, we feature FamFarm, a tech-driven solution simplifying farm management for both farmers and investors through an exclusive interview with Israel Meshileya, founder of FamFarm, who shares how his solution is transforming agro-farming across Nigeria. In a country where outdated tools often limit productivity, FamFarm redefines what it means to farm smartly in Nigeria. With secure data protection, timely notifications, and accurate analytics, the platform empowers agricultural communities to operate smarter, greener, and more profitably.
What inspired the creation of FamFarm, and how does the app specifically address the challenges faced by small to mid-scale livestock farmers?
FamFarm was born out of a personal need as a business owner. It is easy to lose data when you manage multiple businesses, and at some point, I find it difficult to manage the farm remotely. Video evidence wasn’t enough, and I needed a better way to manage my farm ventures. With a platform like FamFarm, it becomes easier to know whether I’m running at a profit or loss without being physically present.
The app is tailored to ease the workload of experienced farmers while simultaneously helping newbies navigate easily. Most farmers running multiple projects tend to lose track of data and progress, but with FamFarm, you can now track each of these projects effortlessly.
Could you walk us through the core technological features of the FamFarm app? How do these features simplify and optimise daily farm operations?
FamFarm is built to go beyond traditional farm management. At its core, it offers a smart data logging system that allows farmers to easily record daily operations, from feed usage and livestock performance to crop monitoring and environmental conditions. This enables accurate calculation of crucial metrics like the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), helping users quickly assess whether their operations are profitable.
What sets FamFarm apart is its ability to transform raw farm data into actionable insights. With built-in analytics, forecasting tools, and real-time dashboards, both farmers and investors can track performance, spot inefficiencies, and make informed decisions without the need for complex tools or expertise.
But we’re not stopping at operational efficiency. FamFarm is evolving into a comprehensive agritech platform, one that connects farmers to financial tools, supply chains, and investment opportunities. Every feature is designed with simplicity and impact in mind, so users can focus on growth while FamFarm handles the heavy lifting beneath the surface.
Data security is crucial for users. What measures has FamFarm implemented to ensure the protection and confidentiality of farm and investor data?
Data privacy is at the heart of FamFarm. With 10 years of experience in fintech and cybersecurity, we ensured end-to-end encryption. All communication is thoroughly secured, and no middleman can compromise it. We are also leveraging several tools to tighten this, which makes it difficult for attackers to compromise the user’s data.
How does FamFarm facilitate real-time communication between farmers and investors?
As I noted earlier, we have a secure chat channel whereby farmers and investors can communicate effectively. We also have a feature that allows the investor to be notified of all activities on an ongoing investment. This real-time update helps to maintain transparency as both parties can clearly see what is going on with their investments at every milestone.
In terms of user experience, how have you designed the app to be accessible for farmers with varying levels of digital literacy?
FamFarm started as an internal tool, but everything changed when nearby farmers saw its potential and asked to try it. That first rollout taught us a lot. We quickly realised the app needed to be much more user-friendly to truly support farmers of all backgrounds.
We listened carefully to their feedback and worked directly with farmers from different regions. Their input helped us simplify the interface, remove technical language, and include clear visual cues. We also added support for multiple languages, so users can interact with the app in the language they are most comfortable with.
By involving real farmers in the development process and focusing on practical ease of use, we created an app that feels familiar and approachable. Whether someone is experienced with technology or just starting out, FamFarm is built to be easy to use and genuinely helpful.
What strategies are in place to ensure the app functions effectively in areas with limited internet connectivity, which is common in rural farming communities?
From the very beginning, we designed FamFarm with both rural and urban farmers in mind. Recognising the connectivity challenges common in many rural farming communities, we implemented several strategies to ensure reliable app functionality even in low or intermittent network coverage.
These include offline data entry and local caching, which allow farmers to record activities and access critical features without needing a constant internet connection. Once connectivity is restored, the app automatically syncs data to the cloud, ensuring no loss of information.
By prioritising offline capabilities and seamless synchronisation, FamFarm delivers a smooth and dependable user experience regardless of network conditions, empowering farmers everywhere to manage their operations effectively.
How does FamFarm utilise data analytics to provide actionable insights for farmers, such as tracking bird growth, feed consumption, and financial performance?
FamFarm leverages powerful data analytics through features like the Growth Tracker, which continuously monitors the health and development of animals, delivering accurate, real-time reports on their well-being. This enables farmers to identify trends and intervene early if issues arise.
Additionally, the app provides investors and farmers with a comprehensive financial overview, including return on investment (ROI), available cash flow, overall profit or projected losses, and detailed monthly performance reports. Users also have access to a self-service portal that allows them to generate customised reports, ensuring they have the data they need to make informed, strategic decisions that optimise farm productivity and profitability.
Can you discuss any integration plans with other agricultural technologies or platforms to enhance the functionality of FamFarm?
Many farmers, especially newbies, often find it difficult to make sales. To address this, we are currently having conversations with marketplace platforms that connect farmers with buyers for a possible integration of our platforms. When live, these partnerships will ensure that our farmers record massive sales and they indeed build wealth and not debt.
What feedback have you received from early adopters regarding the app’s impact on their farming practices and productivity?
We’ve received very encouraging feedback from our early adopters. Many farmers have transitioned from traditional notebooks to using FamFarm for seamless and accurate record-keeping. Initially, some users raised concerns about language barriers and the need to explain certain terms within the app. However, we have since addressed this issue by introducing support for multiple languages, making the app more accessible and easier to understand for a wider range of users. Additionally, many farmers have found the profit forecasting feature particularly valuable in planning and optimising their operations.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during development and deployment, especially considering Nigeria’s tech infrastructure and rural digital literacy?
One of the biggest challenges we encountered was developing a solution that could function reliably in areas with limited or unstable network coverage. This led us to prioritise an offline-first design, ensuring core features work seamlessly without internet access, with online capabilities added as a complementary enhancement. This approach has been critical in making the app practical and accessible for farmers in rural communities, while also considering varying levels of digital literacy.
Looking ahead, what are the future technological developments or features you plan to introduce to further support poultry farmers, farmers as a whole and investors? Is there a broader vision for FamFarm beyond poultry farming?
We have several features in the backlog which we hope to bring on gradually as we work towards our goal of ensuring every farmer is building wealth and not debt. Recently, we launched FarmIntel, an intelligent feature users can ask questions, seek clarifications and be guided on every aspect of their farm operations.
